Royal Papworth Hospital is a centre of Excellence in healthcare, and this extends to our purpose built 10 bedded Sleep Laboratory and Respiratory Physiology service. The successful applicant will require the holder to be a self-sufficient dynamic person who is forward thinking and above all a team player who is able to work within our team to deliver first class standards of health care. Using your experience as a specialist sleep and respiratory healthcare scientist, this role will involve the setup, analysis and scoring of oximetry, sleep diaries, actigraphy, respiratory polygraphy, polysomnography and daytime tests, as well as CPET, FENO, PFT's, and CPAP therapy working to internationally accepted standards. We also actively take part in the STP education programme with our own students as well as support other departments and hospitals. Student mentorship will be central in this role leading as the department training officer. Departmental clinical audit and participation in research studies is also required.
The main duties of the Chief Sleep and Respiratory Physiologist role will require:
*Independent set up, bio calibration, data recording, analysis and reporting of a wide range of sleep diagnostic tests in both our in-patient ward and outpatient department.
*Independent set up, troubleshooting and follow up for CPAP therapy.
*Independent set up, calibration, performance and quality assurance of a wide range of respiratory function diagnostic tests across inpatients and outpatients.
*Supervision of junior staff and temporary staffing.
*Mentorship and support of our SPT post graduate students.
*Equipment testing as needed.
*Participation in clinical audit and research as required.
*Attendance and where required participation at departmental meetings and MDT meetings.
*Participation in departmental SOP creation and updates.
*Ongoing risk assessment to ensure the wellbeing of service users and staff.

*As an in-patient department we will be open Monday to Friday. Shift times vary and will include working into the mid to later evening. There is no overnight working required for the Healthcare Scientists.

Degree level qualification in clinical physiology or other science related degree topic. The degree subject must be relevant to the specialism and include Human Anatomy and Physiology and research skills.

HCPC registered Clinical Scientist in Respiratory and Sleep or RCCP/AHCS registration.
Mentorship training
Educational or assessing qualifications.
Appropriate sleep qualification such as ESRS Technologist Examination in Sleep Medicine, RPSGT, CCSH.
Appropriate respiratory physiology qualification such as ARTP Practitioner Certificate.
ARTP/BSS/ESRS membership
ARTP CPAP certificate or other appropriate CPAP qualification or experience.
Significant experience working across a sleep and/or respiratory physiology department, particularly relating to education, patient assessment and treatment planning.
A high degree of proficiency using computers and the Microsoft Office Suite.
Be able to problem solve using initiative to plan and organise work for themselves and others including in acute scenarios, taking a lead role in specialist circumstances such as during specialist testing.
Be able to lead, coordinate and facilitate and support learning and training of themselves and others.
Be able to lead, coordinate and facilitate departmental policy changes, implementing them efficiently.
Demonstrate highly specialist knowledge of sleep and its disorders and the treatment of sleep disorders including sleep disordered breathing.
Demonstrate highly specialist knowledge of respiratory physiology and its disorders.
Demonstrate a wide highly specialist knowledge of sleep testing using international scoring rules and ability to set up, score and report Polysomnography, Respiratory polygraphy, actigraphy and others to a high standard.
Demonstrate a wide knowledge of highly specialist respiratory function testing using national (ARTP) and international (ERS/ATS) guidelines and be able teach and develop other staff members to a high standard.
Awareness of cultural and social influences on health and of the importance of respecting diversity and differences.
Experience of clinical service management.
Experience setting up and conducting clinical audit and/or research in a clinical area.
Evidence of formal/informal teaching.
Evidence of project team participation.
Experience of Sentrysuite software.
Experience of Visi-Download, Domino, REMLogic and Noxturnal.
Experience of CPAP therapy including troubleshooting and set up.
Experience of leading teaching and development of various courses to include the STP, PTP and professional courses (e.g. ARTP, RPSGT).
