We are excited to advertise for a substantive NHS consultant surgeon post at the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust ("Royal Papworth Hospital"). The post-holder must have a proven ability in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, with a sub-specialty interest in transplantation and organ retrieval.
This full-time post will join the existing team of 18 cardiothoracic surgery consultants while supporting education and research as part of Royal Papworth Hospitals' Tripartite Mission.
The post will have a flexible job plan for operating sessions and outpatient clinics. There are regular in-patient ward rounds in the critical care area and on the surgical wards. The post-holder will be required to join the transplant tea, including attendance at the transplant patient listing, inpatient MDT and review of organ donor offers
Provide assessment and treatment for adult cardiac surgery patients, including patients undergoing transplantation..
Provide cover for the organ retrieval rota, as well as being involved in machine perfusion technologies, both at donor site and at Royal Papworth hospital.
Contribute to the training, supervision, assessment and appraisal of junior doctors in accordance with standards required by the hospital, Royal College and Postgraduate Dean.
Participate in the training of other members of the surgical team.
Participate in the education programme for medical students attached to Papworth
Ensure that practice standards are maintained and developed through clinical audit, evidence-based research and appraisal.

MBBS, and FRCS/MRCS or equivalents.
UK Specialist Registration in Cardiothoracic Surgery or within 6 months of completion of specialist training or recognised equivalent EU/EA qualification -- at interview date
Higher degree
Proven ability in cardiac surgery with evidence of performance to a high standard in all aspects of practice, including emergency cardiac surgery.
Proven ability in cardiothoracic transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.
Proven ability in organ retrieval, with emphasis on machine perfusion and interest in novel technologies -- such as DCD heart and lung retrievals.
Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement & prioritise clinical need.
Demonstrates appropriate technical competence and evidence of development of excellent diagnostic skills & judgement. Validated logbook- documentation of surgical exposure to date.
Experience in ex vivo lung perfusion.
